India is well-known as the largest producer and consumer of milk in the world. With an estimation of 400 million liters of milk produced in India per day, 160 million liters is retained by the producers for their own consumption. 240 million liters per day is the surplus milk available for sale out of which 70 million liters per day are being utilized by the organizer such as Amul, Mother Dairy, etc as well as private sector players such as Nestle and Danone. The unorganized sectors of the society comprising of the traditional domestic sector have 170 million liters of the surplus milk. So in term of value, the Indian milk economy is worth Rs 5 Lakh Crore, with CAGR growth of 15-16 %. Out of the above analysis, the organized milk economy is worth Rs 80,000 Crore.
